Through and Through: a group exhibition of women artists in celebration of Women’s Month in South Africa.
Using the lens of the female creative gaze, artworks have been chosen from within the Ellerman House Collection, by the artists Mmakgabo Helen Sebidi and Maud Sumner, to act as catalysts for wider considerations. Placed alongside the work of several contemporary female artists, the pieces give rise to revelatory conversations between them, inviting the audience to engage with our understanding of the natural world, relationships, and the human condition.
In some instances themes overlap, while in others the same subjects address – and question – the world differently. Ultimately, Through and Through delves into the complexities, considerations, and rigorousness of female-centric practice in local visual arts.
