in “Dirty Neon” the nude and flesh colour decisions along with rich reds suggest a strong feminine presence, fruitful, blossoming. Loose threads and ‘unfinished’ sections in relation to the rigid structure of the compositions speak to the idea of duality, the necessity of light and dark, order and chaos in the quest through the existential labyrinth. This echoes Strydom’s own personal journey of needing to experience the darkness in order to understand the gifts of the light.
